Clyde Butcher, the Southwest Florida
photographer and author known for his wilderness photography of the Florida
landscape, has opened his first gallery, right here in Coconut Grove. Clyde
Butcher Gallery is at the newly renovated Engle Building at the
corner of McFarland Road and Main Highway at 2994 McFarlane Road. The space is
located next to the soon-to-open Harry’s Pizzeria.
“Clyde Butcher is one of the icons of modern
photography, and we are excited to have him in the community," said Raymond Fort, of Arquitectonica, principal of Main Highway Partners, the company redeveloping the building.
“Clyde Butcher is Florida at its best,” says Harold
Fort, another Main Highway Partners principal and landscape architect at
Arquitectonica GEO. “He conveys to the world the message of our beautiful
yet fragile Everglades through artistic photography.”
The Arquitectonica-designed gallery, with its high
ceilings, will accommodate large pieces as well as small close-up photos.
The gallery had a soft opening the last week of
December, with another soft opening on Tuesday, January 13, featuring a Clyde Butcher-hosted
tour and reception. Clyde will give a little talk starting at 6:30 pm.

I am really glad they are in the Grove. Hope they can make it. However, I found out from a lady at the gallery that this event on January 13 is actually by invitation only.
