The streets are driving us all crazy

On Monday, it seemed like everyone was out driving at the same time at midday. Traffic on South Bayshore was a mess, Tigertail and 17th Avenues were a mess and it was impossible as usual to cross 27th Avenue. I thought it might be Christmas shoppers all out at once since apparently Monday was the biggest mailing day of the year for Christmas shipments, but it turns out there was a water main break near Aviation and South Bayshore Drive.

I had mentioned it on my personal Facebook page and everyone had different ideas about the traffic, not realizing it was the water main, but it did bring up a lot of fears over future plans for Coconut Grove roadwork.

Staring after the New Year, a large section of Main Highway will be closed for repairs, of course we know about South Bayshore Drive being renovated from Mercy Way all the way down to Darwin. Bird Avenue is on the agenda after 27th Avenue gets done, if that project ever gets done and it seems like we'll all be going nowhere fast in 2015.

I am no expert, but it seems that all of these projects at once, or even one after the other is not really a great idea. It seems like years of non-stop street work are going to cripple the area. I'm not sure what the solution is, but we need one.

If it takes the City over 5 years to turn just a couple blocks of 27AV into an impassable Lunar Landscape from Hell, - and still counting, mind you - then we'll be lucky to see some finished improvements on South Bayshore Dr. by 2050, weather permitting.

We'd better get used to it because the repairs along South Bayshore are coming, and what we experienced yesterday will become the norm.

It is an endemic problem to South Florida, our elected officials are out of touch with the common man, we need more public transportation, MUCH MORE. Have you seen the construction mess on the junction of Palmetto and Dolphin expressways, that has been going on now for seven years, SEVEN YEARS!!! and they are not even close to finishing the job. It was really a two year project max.

Whose bright ide was it to schedule all this work in the Grove at approx the same time? Why on earth is the 27th Ave project dragging on so long?

It's like the building of the pyramids. Well, wait until the high-end condos are completed and the Bentley owners start suing. Then maybe.

This is the price of progress. HOWEVER I have the name and email of Leo Salgueiro Construction Manager Construction Division Miami Dade County public Works.salgul@miamidade.gov 305 375 1202 write to him call him...if enough of us call and email, he responds. We need the work and progress but whoever signs contracts for Miami Dade should be fired! To much time to do to little work. A Spanish Company compeltly rebuilt 595 in Broward in 5 years to the day. The contractor and FPL have been working on 27th Ave for about 4 years!!!

We need even more construction and huge high-rise buildings. Anywhere possible, Grove Isle and everywhere. After all, our added population will consist of filthy rich developers, politicians and well-connected contractors who will only visit occasionally by helicopter or private planes a few winter days.
Traffic will be wonderful, once we get used to those new, pretty blue bikes.

How about a brand new Publx instead of that useless glasshouse on Peacock park? Our new Grovite young entrepreneurs could grab lunch there!

If Bayshore drags on like 27th ave it may drive away the commuters that try and run over any pedestrian that gets in the way of their cellphone powered lives and vehicles. It might become safe to walk into town.
