Mad Hatter artist: lugufelo

The Mad Hatter Arts Festival is November 15 and 16 at The Barnacle. We'll be profiling some of the artists who are participating this year.

Luis G. Fernandez (left) is known as "lugufelo" in the art world. His primary medium is metal but other materials have been used in his art, causing mixed media pieces. "I have had the pleasure of being exhibited in the Mad Hatter Festival twice before (2011 and 2012). I keep coming back to the festival because I love the community in which is it surrounded by. The professionalism of Teresa Sorrentino in the arts as well as of Katrina Boler as the park director has been impeccable, while the greenery of the park coupled with the enchantment of Coconut Grove amazes me year after year," says lugufelo.

His art has been shown around Miami and other areas of the country. The Northglenn Art Parade in Colorado has shown his sculptures two years in a row, which can only happen if you win the competition for a one year exhibit. Here in Miami, the Miami River Art Fair has also had one of his installations on display.

Some awards that lugufelo has won were twice from the City of Doral, a first place in the "Artists and Arts Juried Show" in Wynwood, and the People’s Choice Award in the Douglas County Art Encounters in Colorado. "I also just receive a first place prize in the Art Scopes Juried Show at the Curator’s Voice Art Projects in Wynwood," says lugufelo.
