Gran Fondo Italia bike ride is Sunday

The Gran Fondo Italia is back Sunday, November 9. The ride (not race) starts at Coral Gables City Hall and it makes its way through various routes, and the decision of the riders.

The routes are 25 miles to 63 and 108 miles, riders can choose the course they are comfortable with. Miami, Coconut Grove and Coral Gables will be the continuation of three previous events with Italian-style cycling. The finish location is at Dinner Key in front of Miami City Hall at 3500 Pan American Drive.

The 108 mile and 63 mile courses are $160.00; the 25 mile course is $90.00; there is a Club Italia package for any distance at $399.

The 108 mile course heads all the way down to Homestead, passing through Coral Gables, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay, Cutler Bay, Black Point Marina and beyond.

The 63 mile course will also head to south along some of the same routes and the 25 mile course will basically tour Coral Gables and then come through Coconut Grove. All courses ending at City Hall.

Goodie bags will include Italian wine from Tuscany, the Gran Fondo Italia medal upon completion, a post ride past meal at City Hall and lots more. They will also give away one Colnago C60 bike during the day on Sunday by random drawing for any registered riders.

A recent, fancy ver$$ion of the traditional Homestead Speedway Century ride.. lots of hybrid "cyclists" there are just exhibiting fancy new clothes and the latest bike gadgets.. a few of them actually do have the legs and lungs. Hopefully they'll get their act together this year, correcting previous logistics mistakes. At that price, they should. Always fun to watch.
