The street work

South Bayshore Drive is going to be slow going for awhile once the roadway and drainage project starts. Capital Improvement Projects deputy director, Jeovanny Rodriquez says the project will take one year and only one lane would be open. It was suggested to coordinate this with the rush hour traffic patterns, but if you think that the one closure at Tigertail and 27th Avenue was a pain, get ready for real headaches.

The job goes from the entrance to Mercy Hospital to Darwin Street, in front of The Fresh Market.

I think it's time to dust off our bicycles.

As for SW 27th Avenue, the County declares that the job will go on through June 2015, which of course could end up being December 2015 or beyond.  The water and sewer department required special work to be done on the west side and that created a backlog of work. According to sources, the contractor is very slow and at times does not even return phone calls. When the west side of the road is done, it will be open and the east side will be worked on, which should not be as complicated and the work should go faster.

The "peanut" traffic circle" should be open when the west side is open and you'll be able to go on Tigertail from one side to the other, but of course, you'll have to go around the peanut, which is taking the place of the traffic light, which is there now.

The County seems to be upset over how slow the job is going, but other than talk about it, they don't seem to have been doing anything to push it along.

I'll include my name: I'm Steve Dloogoff and a 25 year resident of Coconut Grove.

I have tried to contact city officials and commisioners and NEVER receive a response on 27th Ave,

Whoever authorized the contract with the irresponsible contractor should be fired!

The contractor should be black listed to never be allowed to receive a contract from Miami Dade or Miami or Florida!

Days and weeks go by and NO work is done. Seems the contractor starts something... and disapears for days on end

To bad this form does not have spell check!

Sounds like the contractor we hired to do our backyard project! We fired him! Maybe it's time for the county to do the same with this guy! Someone has good connections... must be nice.

Good point about the Arts Festival...what a nightmare!

One of my ongoing questions relates to how they will make up for parking lost by tenants of buildings/townhomes on 27 ave. My hope is the space formerly occupied by SLice and Ice becomes residential/visitor parking. Any idea what the plan is for that lot?
