ACE Theater designated as historic

A week ago, the ACE Theater on Grand Avenue was designated historic by Miami's Historic and Environmental Preservation Board, at the request of the owner of the theater, ACE Development Company.  Good thing because as developers make their way down the street, the ACE could have been in danger of being knocked down. But now what?

The Coconut Grove Playhouse and the ACE Theater are now both sitting decrepit and empty. Both could be such huge economic generators for Coconut Grove.

The theater is nothing really to look at, the only nice thing seems to be the sign; remove the ACE sign and there's a square box. But just the fact that a theater is there that can be used for anything from plays to movies to black box events is a great thing. If that stupid too tall light fixture could be moved to the left or right of the theater, you'd really have something there.
