New beer and movie nights planned

A couple of new beer festivals were talked about at the last BID meeting on Tuesday -- both involve beer and films, to be exact. Brew & View, presented by Carol Guiterrez, is a beer and movie night planned for May 10 at Peacock Park. It's an event that's sponsored by Samuel Adams and is making the circuit, Coconut Grove was chosen to be one of those cities thanks to Carol who presented that idea to Samuel Adams.

Beer will be sold and food too along with the movie, but their hopes of food trucks lining up along the horseshoe area outside the park was shot down by the BID, not so much that the BID is against it, but local restaurants are against it. It's thinking like this that hurts the Grove, these restaurants need to grow up and join the 21st century.

It totally makes no sense because food tents are permitted, where they assume Grove restaurants will participate and sell food, but when does that ever really happen? Grove restaurants hardly ever partake of these events so it ends up being the same situation whether food is sold from a truck or a tent, either way, it's vendors from outside the Grove selling at the park.

A second beer and movie event, Clips & Beer is hopefully going to be presented by New Belgium from Fort Collins, Colorado.  Joanna Laubscher, in town from Colorado, talked about Coconut Grove being the 20th stop in their 21 city tour. It's a free event,  the other festival, the Brew & View will have a gate fee.

Clips & Beer raises money for charity and their whole goal is to get their brand out there while raising money for good causes. The films are shorts from 30 seconds to five minutes long. October 24 is the tentative date for this, but as there are other things going on in Peacock Park that month, the organizers may need a waiver from the city to hold this. There is the Pumpkin Patch and also Grovetoberfest, both in Peacock Park that month. The BID board was kind enough to ask Tony Abelo how he felt about Clips & Beer as it is a week away from his popular Grovetoberfest, but Tony was open to the idea and felt that there is room for everyone. I also am assuming that a beer drinker won't mind two weekends of beer drinking. We'll see if the movie and beer event gets the date they requested.
