Blanche Park needs remediation
The remediation will include the excavation of one (1) foot of soil, installation of an impermeable liner, installation of a drainage system, and the addition of one (1) foot of clean soil material. All excavated areas will be restored with artificial turf and/or rubberized mulch.
The work is scheduled to begin Wednesday, March 12, 2014 and is anticipated to be completed by the end of June 2014. Please note that during this time, both parks will be cloedD and a fence will be placed around the park. The cost is $400,000.

Ya gotta love that 24-hour notice from our Banana Republic officials about a 2-6 month (local news is reporting park closure through September) park closure. LOSERS.
I hope they do something about the parking. I am tired of the dog owners parking in the middle of Shipping Ave. if this was done on any other street they would be ticketed.
Wow that's a lot of money.....
Just wondering why this took such a long time to complete the evaluation
I understand that the work needs to be done on the Park but why dose the DOG PARK have to be close also from my understanding the KIDS PARK is not safe so why is the dog park going to be close to.. I guess that we can all start going to the LOT ON THE CORNER OF GIFFORD AND SHIPPING. It is already been use for a dog park...
It seems that we have been working on this park forever, constantly. I understand that it is in a strategic location very near important people. But over the years, has any City park (other than those sold to religious schools) been the beneficiary of so much renovation and maintenance?
Agreed. I drove my bike by last week and though to myself "damn, that's a nice park..." And now they're going to tear it up!!
Meanwhile the park that's nearest my house and where I take my daughter looks like crap (Marjorie Stoneman Douglas Mini Park).
Funny, I just left the dog park and it was open and full of people. And some signs were up saying it will now close tomorrow but only for period(s) of time.
I used to live right by MSD Park, and other than occassionally mowing the grass, no renovation was ever done there in the last decade. Still, a great quiet park.
Of course, no park in D2 has or will ever get the attention that Blanche park has over Mark's reign. He wanted a nice front lawn paid for by you, and he got it. Only a matter of time until he tries to name it after himself. Or maybe it can be claimed to be named in honor of his 'great uncle' "the General"
So....they closed the park a week ago, and then today finally started doing some work -- there is one (1) singular guy out there right now with a shovel! Wanna start taking bets on how long this shit-show actually drags on for because it's not gonna finish by June?!?
