KROMA Art Space launches first Exhibition

On Thursday, February 6, 2014 Coconut Grove’s newest attraction KROMA Art Space will launch its first exhibition “JUMBEY: Spirits in Art."  JUMBEY will be open from February 6-27, 2014 and will feature local visual artists from a variety of mediums who will have the opportunity to occupy one of the eighteen studio spaces KROMA offers. 

JUMBEY is a Bahamian term that means Spirits and the exhibition will feature two popular artists from the Bahamas, Linx FoEver and Kourtney Eugene Brown. The opening reception is on Thursday, February 6 at 5:00 pm. The community is invited to attend and enjoy fine art, food, cocktails, and live entertainment. Through the month, Activities will include youth performances, weekly educational classes for children and adults, special guest artists, and more.  The opening reception and activities are free to the public.

A major fundraiser and launch of KROMA Gallery’s new marketing campaign “The Art of Color” will be held on Thursday, February 20, at 6:00 pm.  “Art is a proven transformative force in developing communities; it promotes diversity and catalyzes new investment”, says J.S. Rashid, President & CEO of the Collaborative Development Corporation.  More information will be released about the fundraiser and marketing campaign in the near future.  
KROMA Art Space is inviting interested artists who are culturally ambitious, stimulating and have engaging art in diverse media to be a part of the artist community in Coconut Grove. KROMA contains 18 individual studio spaces for visual artists. Studios range from 175 to 400 square feet and are offered at a yearly rate, payable in 6-month installments and include Wi-Fi access, participation in monthly events, usage of the common areas (kitchen, window exhibition space, outdoor area and bathrooms), and more. 

Artists that want to be the first to experience KROMA by participating in JUMBEY will have studio fees waived for the duration of the exhibition. This offer is first come first serve and to be eligible, artists must apply by providing an artist statement, description of art work, artist CV/resume/website, email address, cell phone number, and 3-5 images of their work. Submissions must be sent to art@kromamiami.com by February 7, 2014.
