In memory of Mike Elder
On Friday, December 27, Mike Elder passed away. For years he was the gatekeeper at Commodore and Grand during the King Mango Strut, and last year he ran the line-up of the parade. I would see Mike all over the Grove and we were Facebook friends. When I would run into him, he would always have something nice to say about something I had written.At this year’s Strut, his widow, Jane Reilly accompanied by their sons, Buck and Mike dropped the banana to begin the parade.
A memorial service will be held for Mike this Thursday, January 2, at 4 pm at Fairchild Gardens.
