Taking visitors out of this world

In honor of National Astronomy Day, Miami Science Museum will present AstroJam: Mission to the Future. Perfect for kids and adults alike, AstroJam will explore the links between science, technology, and imagination. Some of the science and technology imagined in science fiction stories – hover crafts, smart robots, and bionic limbs – have started to become reality. Visitors will go on a mission to the future, learning about technology, experimenting with hands-on activities, enjoying 3-D printing demos and imagining what the next innovation might be.

Presenters include Dr. James Webb, professor of Extra-Galactic Astronomy at Florida International University in Miami. During his talk titled “The Science of Star Trek,” Dr. Webb will discuss the real science behind science fiction stories: what is possible, what’s not, and what technology from science fiction has actually become reality.

The event’s door prize is a high-quality Celestron telescope.

AstroJam is being held on Saturday, October 12 from 10 am to 10 pm.
From 10 am to 6 pm, AstroJam is included in the cost of admission to the museum and after 6 pm, the cost is $6 per person.

Miami Science Museum is located at 3280 S. Miami Avenue.
