Supporting Coconut Grove Elementary

The Coconut Grove Elementary School PTA needs your support An A-rated community school located right in the heart of Coconut Grove, CGE is proud to have 423 students and counting in 2013-2014. Yet, over 50 percent of them are underprivileged and currently receive free or reduced lunch. The CGE PTA is devoted to helping nurture these young minds further in core and non-core subjects such as science, technology, music, and art. However, we need the support of our friends throughout the community to achieve these program goals.
This year, the CGE PTA plans to offer proven enrichment programs that can broaden students’ horizons beyond the classroom walls through after-school tutoring, leadership skills training, and educational field trips. Additional funding is also needed for implementing smart board technology that will support the Common Core Standards curriculum as well as ergonomic furniture for kids to use in the library and media center. Finally, CGE is also looking for sponsors and/or in-kind donations for our healthy garden program that helps educate students about food, health, and environmental issues.
In the wake of the recent tragedies that have afflicted our nation’s schools, CGE PTA is also committed to ensuring our students’ safety and well-being. To guard against outside dangers that have become all too real for schools, we seek to install a critical electronic security system to enhance campus safety. In addition, we plan to sponsor educational programs to combat cyber-bullying and bullying. The PTA is planning to make safety-driven repairs to the playground and hygienic improvements to our decaying bathrooms.
