New MPA/Miami Maps program

The Miami Parking Authority (MPA) has approved Parking Meter Map Systems, a division of Miami Maps, to conduct a one-year pilot program in Coconut Grove to determine the viability and acceptance of displaying walking maps on the sides and back of 30 master meter parking stations.

As part of the one-year test, Parking Meter Maps Systems will offer affordable advertising on each meter. The ads will be rotated every six months to accommodate new advertisers and will be maintained on a regular basis in order to assure a clean, high-quality presentation. Community activities, such as festivals and meetings highlighted on the map, will also be updated.  In addition, a QR code will appear on each map to allow merchants to target potential customers in the area via SmartPhone technology in order to offer special promotions or discounts in real time, thus creating new business and valuable revenue for Coconut Grove businesses.

“We are always looking for innovative ways to generate new revenue streams for the City of Miami while adding value to the local community,” said Arthur Noriega, Chief Executive Officer of Miami Parking Authority.

MPA will receive 25 percent of all advertising revenues. The Authority will not be responsible for expenses in connection with the operation, installation or maintenance of the project. “Although actual value of the ads will be determined during the test period, it is anticipated that a gross annual revenue exceeding $40,000 from 30 meters is a realistic working number, which could generate $10,000 for MPA,” stated Marshall Steingold,” President of Parking Meter Map Systems.

The pilot project will be supported by a public information campaign aimed at raising awareness and sparking interest in the community.

It would be cool if the MPA used the money earned to offset parking fees, in other words, give us free parking in Coconut Grove, but then we are back to square one because what would we need the parking meters for then? They would end up being just billboards, which I guess they are now with the maps. But honestly, maybe only Sundays we could have free parking or weekends.

Free parking on Friday-Sunday would be a great idea or even just have 1$ all day parking. Anything to bring back business to the Grove and bring it back to life.

They should do free parking for lunchtime in the grove, so that maybe every restaurant in coconut grove didn't have to take a loss to be open during the day. maybe even 11-6pm weekdays - free parking - get people in when it's the most empty.

Free parking is never the answer. Look at the successful areas around the Grove - South Miami, Coral Gables, Brickell Village, Miami Beach - do you see free parking?

Don't blame the parking fees for the lack of business imagination.

Now you must put your tag number to park in Coconut Grove, I saw an elderly lady and her husband get so offended, frustrated and tired in the heat that her husband had to go once in search of a parking meter then come back to the car to get the tag number and have to go back and then come back get her to go for lunch which caused her to stop him and tell him this place has become insane and they went on to Coral Gables, they had come all the way from Broward on business and just waned to have lunch. How about Art Noriega get back into the parking business than trying to do fancy stuff like ordering unconventional parking meters over and over and pilot programs which are waste of funds on the wrong other projects than parking.

Does anyone know why the MPA now requires you to produce identification to park? Serious question.

SAVE THE RECEIPT!!!
The sign above the meter states that you do not need to display the ticket so I foolishly thought that I didn't need to save it and threw it away. I put $5 in the meter and thought I was set for a couple (2) hours. Came back an hour later to get something I had forgotten and had a ticket on my window.
Add to that that I have had the machine outside the Saing Club twice take my cash then flash a notice that the bill processor was jammed and then freeze on that screen. More money stolen from me by the MPA.

The keypad is unlit as well so at night you can't even see the damn thing.

Just to head off anyone who wants to tell me to just phone it in or use a credit card... Nevermind the entitled attitude that everyone has access to a cell phone or a credit card, the people who are responsible for these machines cannot even keep up with their basic maintainence. I'm NOT giving them access to my CC number or my private phone number.

Again I ask how the MPA is allowed to require one to produce identification to be allowed to park?

And to Anonymous 10:05. If the maps are getting ur underwear in a twist, maybe you should stay away. And get mental health. Best to keep you off the streets.

The new parking machines say that displaying the Receipt is not necessary. I saw a guy get a ticket just last week.
He showed me the receipt and it was still valid and had his tag number on it.

Either the system is not working properly, or the Parking Patrols are Inept.

It's no wonder Coconut Grove has lost a lot of business in the past few years.
