Water Balloon Fight to help end global water crisis
Blue Mission's "Every Drop Counts 2013" event is Saturday, April 13, at Tamiami Park (11201 SW 24 Street) from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. The water balloon fight is at 10:00 am. After that there are food trucks and live music. Also, bounce houses and carnival games.
Pre-registration here is $20 (you can just donate at that link too; on-site registration is $30.
$20 provides Water for Life for one individual.
Facts:
- Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.
- Every 21 seconds, a child dies from a water-related disease.
- More than 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation, and hygiene-related causes. Nearly all deaths, 99 percent, occur in the developing world.
- 780 million people lack access to an improved water source; approximately 1 in 9 people.
- An American taking a 5-minute shower uses more water than the average person in a developing country slum uses for an entire day.
