Moe's knows

Mr. Moe's knows how to bump up business. They lowered the prices and changed a few things on the menu and the bottom line is improving. A lot. I had lunch recently with my friend John El Masry, owner of Mr. Moe's and he showed me all they had to offer. New on the menu is a creation that John started many years ago, the Mahi Mahi which comes as a sandwich or platter. It comes blackened, Mesquite or Jamaican Jerked. The sandwich is $10.95, served on garlic bread (amazing) with french fries. The platter comes with two sides or a side salde ($10.95).

You can also get the Mahi on a Cesar Salad ($10.95) or as part of the Southwestern Fish Tacos $8.95.

There is also the All American Burger for only $7.95 (the cure for those $15 burgers). It's a half pound, yes half pound of Angus beef, topped with cheddar cheese if you like. It comes with lettuce, tomato, onions and pickle and fries on the side, all for this one low price.

I am partial to the Fajita at most places I go to. They don't disappoint at Mr. Moe's. Kuka's Fajitas come with chicken ($11.95) or steak ($12.95). They come out sizzling on their own skillet, with all the usual fixin's -- grilled onions, bell peppers, pico de gallo, sour cream, black beans, cheddar, etc.

Mr. Moe's also, known for their Baby Back Ribs, has those always ($12.95 half rack / $19.95 full rack), with your choice of Moe-made sweet Jack Daniel's sauce, Mr. Moe's Tangy Outpost sauce and a choice of two sides for that price.

There is also pizza, steak, chili, all sorts of burgers, and starters. And of course their famous sides, cole slaw, loaded baked potato, sauteed veggies, fries, mac and cheese, salads and more.

They have a full bar. Ask for their famous Moose Juice.

Mr. Moe's is open daily till 3 am at 3131 Commodore Plaza. Phone: 305-442-1114.

I used to like Moe"s. After many repeated bad experiences, my wife and I stopped going. The service is usually terrible and the quality of the food really declined. Couple that with a dirty interior that smells of old vomit and disgusting bathrooms, I surprised they are still in business.

Unfortunately, poor service and poor value are killing the once vibrant Grove dining experience.

The place has been known to literally pull the plug on bands in mid-performance. Bad form.

I went to Moe's very recently on a Saturday afternoon, was seated and ignored. A gaggle of college-aged servers sat at the food service window talking for over 10 minutes and we did not even get a glass of water. We got up and left and went to Bombay Darbur and got excellent service and excellent food. Mr. Moe's needs to do a lot of work on their service before I ever consider returning.
