The Drum Circle is soothing and hypnotic
The Coconut Grove Drum Circle finally made their move to Commodore Plaza and Grand Avenue and that makes all the difference. When they are back at the Mayfair area, on a back street, people find them, but here, right out at a busy intersection, it was the perfect spot.
The drumming started slowly as people showed up here and there, but by the end of the night, there must have been two hundred people enjoying the show -- and of course participating, too.
There is a bus stop right there at the corner, and as people got off the bus, they went right over and enjoyed the circle. The restaurants and galleries on Commodore Plaza enjoyed it, too. Matt from LoKal walked over from across the street and he was all smiles.
I ran into some friends and for about half an hour we spoke, five of us, and while we were only a few feet from the circle, the drums did not bother us or our conversation, it's sort of soothing in it's own way, while being very energetic at the same time -- and hypnotic!
I ran into our friends the Hare Krishnas, across the street and couldn't help wondering if they joined in. I never asked, but they would have been a perfect fit.
The Coconut Grove Drum Circle meets every first Saturday night for the Coconut Grove Gallery Walk and they meet up for various other events all around the county. Join them on their Facebook page here to keep up with their doings.
