It has started . . .

trees
They started demolishing the trees today on Florida Avenue. Hopefully the new trees will be in soon and will bring back the beauty.

That is this scene here, that Burn Notice used a month ago.

So what are the EXACT reasons our elected officials present for chopping down these trees?

One by one. Who issues the death sentence? I tend to think, that they think, it will get better, nicer and safer, soon enough, with replacement trees.

But we can't help but doubt whethere or not some lucrative demolition contracts or special interests are in play here.

From what I see today on the corner of 27th and Bayshore, it's OK.

The only thing that is empty and rotten to the core are local politicians and the mindless clique surrounding them. Everything else is perfect.

Everything else is perfect? The Grove is dying just as those trees are.

I really think the general perception about some trees being replaced is WAYYY overblown. I'm the first to question or criticize City officials on multiple issues, but I really don;t think they are trying to do the wrong thing here and turn the Grove into a desert or anything. The Canopy will be fine, with better trees, in no time. If someone is making shady monies out of this, (pun intended) that's another issue.

I also get the feeling that the Grove's business district is in trouble. Who replaced Dave Collins? Why does is it seem dead most of the time and yet, the prevailing atttitude I have gotten whenever I have received bad service or goods is, 'The customer is always wrong. I'm sure my employee was right.'. WTF? I've never encountered such a hostile attitude anywhere else in the US. It seems like they don't care if their business fails or not or if they lose customers! Very odd. So the tree situation is regrettable but hardly surprising. Someone is crookedly profiting from this.

thats what we said when the mayfair tore down the lil laundry that was there and pounded the underground parking in the coral rock for yrs and yrs isnt mayfair better than trees and lil shops like the sign of the sandpiper where clay pots and mugs were made to suit each persons likings.....this site reminds me of the moral decay of our country and the shell game going on called our politics
here in tampa/ st pete they are calling protesters anarchists. someone gave out the local politicians phone numbers and home addresses.....and they said they were nervous....Why what guilt must the leaders carry.... why dont they represent U.S. us!

Grove started dying because someone:

1- Stopped 5am bar closing at three successful multimillion dollar establishments. Vengefully used every argument to fight and stop the return of 5am, sadly even used rape victims at City Hall meetings to argue against return of 5am bar closing and then allowed it back anyway so one man could get re-elected.

2- Coconut Grove playhouse shut down and become derelict under their watch, now want to give it to their friends to commercialize it and make it look like a mini Dadeland mall or at best a Cocowalk redux.

3- Stopped hundreds of youth coming to the village telling them they were cruising illegally, and making traffic and the streets look full. Now wondering why streets are empty?

4- Mismanagement of resources. Coral Gables just changed codes to allow sidewalk cafes for restaurants so they could do better and more business, Gables is using their assets properly, maintaining the infrastructure, not ripping them up, and impeding restaurants and businesses as happens in Coconut Grove by making restaurants and bars pay an illegal parking fee under the guise of parking improvement trust.

5- Grove Started dying since Marc Sarnoff eroded public’s trust from day one and took the lower ethical ground put that traffic circle smack in front of his own house, and the plants to redirect traffic on Virginia and Grand to reduce traffic on his own street, then carved a dog park from two third of the park across from his own house and left only about one third for children, since he cares more about dogs than people.
