The proposals are in for Scotty's, Chart House area

This is the latest on the RFP that went out recently for The Chart House, Scotty's Landing and the Grove Harbour Marina properties:

Five companies submitted proposals for Scotty's Landing and the marina property, including Landry's Inc., the Texas company that owns The Chart House, Vic and Anthony's, Harlow's and Bubba Gump's and recently bought Morton's.
Landry's, also put in a proposal for the Chart House, property, the only bidder for that property, after the deadline was passed.

Others rumored to be part of the bidding are Terra Group, the company that bought the Grand Bay and one bid came in from another group who brought Arquitectonica, the local architects in. The actual names will come out in about 30 days.

These were the latest RFP requirements.

As for local bars. The new place opening called Mr. Frog's on Main Highway and The Goose, which opened not too long ago, were forced to pay for expensive liquor licenses due to a new law that forces them to do so when other bars are within 1000 feet of them. In the past, the law was simply that they had to sell 51% food and the rest liquor.

Many feel the two go hand-in-hand, that business is planned to shift to The Chart House/Scotty's area, leaving the Center Grove behind. If this is the case, Center Grove business owners need to get off their asses and protect their interests, otherwise all the locals and tourists will be wining and dining on the waterfront in a few years. The people who shaped the long drawn out Waterfront Master Plan, which was approved in 2008, are curious about this and not too thrilled with the changes that may take place.

There is always talk about an RFP for the Glass House in Peacock Park, but that is small potatoes compared to this huge undertaking at the other end of the waterfront. That RFP at the Glass House seems to be on the back burner indefinitely.

Anything will be better than the current dilapidated state its in. The present leaseholder has abused it.

The boatyard there now is too run down and dirty to attract any decent boats so right now its all basically derelict boats and rif raf.

It's funny. I keep reading the term "riff raff" (by people who can't even spell it right) to describe Scotty's patrons and as one of those "lowlifes" who has lived in the Grove for 47 years I say "Bite Me!" Scotty's was the place to go to get away from what the Grove has been turned into and enjoy what the Grove used to be. It was the place to go if I wanted to be where th real locals hang out.
Congratulations to the contractors, developers and BID for turning the Grove from a place to live into a tourist commodity and I hope everyone enjoys Bayside: The Sequal"

When the space was called "Captain Dick's", it truly imbued the spirit of Coconut Grove. Even later, Captain Jack's had some appeal. (At least a pool table.)

Examine the progress/improvement of Scotty's over the years and you will see how much the place has gone 'Turista'.

Of course he has had it for 20 years now, made enough money, and is likely well able to retire.

Didn't notice his bid for renewal
in the offing.

Sincerely,

Aging Grovite

Am not sure to which boatyard previous posters are alluding.

The space called 'Grove Marina' is a stacked dry boat storage facility. A fellow named Spencer Meredith had the franchise; Scotty sub-leased the
drinking/dining/entertainment space from him.

Grove Key Marina is still a very well run place. The dereliction mentioned is probably the trash which accumulates in the haul-out
area due to ignorant and inconsiderate boaters on Biscayne Bay.

Scotty come on! Used to keep my boat there but the hydraulic fluid from the leaking fork lifts and the excessive dirt from the crumbling asphalt was way too much to put up with it year after year. Why let the Marina get so run-down? Like the other anonymous said.. you already made enough money, why put any back into it?
