Fete de la Musique coming to Coconut Grove
A unique music event is coming to Coconut Grove in June, it's called Fete de La Musique and you can be a part of it. This is an annual celebration of music in the streets; an American musician came up with the idea in 1976, his idea was to build peace by the means of music. The actual event first took place in Paris in 1982 and has spread to over 450 cities all over the world. It takes place place on the Summer Solstice, Thursday, June 21 from 5 pm to 11 pm and Coconut Grove will be a part of it this year.
The Miami Conservatory of Music will be producing the event and if all goes well, plans are in the works for a Fete de la Musique Coconut Grove for the Winter Solstice on December 21.
Musicians will be placed at various locations throughout Coconut Grove -- on sidewalks, in courtyards, in restaurants and clubs and the public can stroll about and listen for free. The Conservatory is planning to showcase a variety of musical styles from jazz and blues, to rock, Latin, African and pop music that is reflective of musical culture in South Florida. In addition to the outdoor and restaurant live performances there will be two large concerts with headline acts.
“We are delighted to bring Fete de la Musique to Coconut Grove,” says Brigitte Kishlar, founder of the Miami Conservatory of Music. “It’s a celebration of all the musical styles we have locally and is an exciting experience for music lovers of all ages and cultures."
Fete de la Musique Coconut Grove is accepting applications from local musicians and bands that would like to participate. To apply, go to fetegrove.com or call 305-442-2283 for an application and details. Applications will also be accepted from student, clubs and social groups who want to perform.
