Film to be shown as part of Oral History Program
An Oral History Film is being presented as part of the Historic Black Church Program on Thursday, April 5 from 6 to 8 pm. The film, “G.W. Carver: A Community School,” this year's film, focuses on the school from its inception to its integration. This is the third film done by the law students in the UM School of Law Center for Ethics & Public Service Historic Black Church Program.
This is an evening to celebrate the campus-community Oral History Program and its partnership with the Coconut Grove Ministerial Alliance, Ransom Everglades School and the University of Miami School of Communication.
The film is being shown at George Washington Carver Middle School (4901 Lincoln Drive). Please RSVP to events@law.miami.edu or 305-284-3934 so that they may get a gauge of the attendance.
The Historic Black Church Program is part of the Center for Ethics and Public Service's ongoing nine-year effort to help Miami's distressed Coconut Grove Village West community. The program provides multidisciplinary resources in education, law, and social services to underserved residents by establishing congregation-based church partnerships through the West Grove's sixteen-church Ministerial Alliance. The Program offers University of Miami students and faculty opportunities for civic engagement, service-learning, and community-based research.
"Our intent is to create an archive for all interested churches so that they have a resource to teach the next generation and preserve their history," says Professor Anthony Alfieri, Director, Center for Ethics & Public Service.
