And so it begins . . .
They were out today marking trees for removal as part of the street scape/sidewalk changes in Center Grove. Florida Avenue is the location of these photos. It pains me to see this, but I'm told it's in the name of progress. Our little historic village will one day look like Bal Harbour or Boca Raton, I still am not sure why history can't remain historical. This large tree in front of the Mayfair Hotel is marked to die. For some reason, I can't see this being done in New York neighborhoods or Boston or Washington, DC.
These two trees will be removed to make way for a valet parking cut out for the new Villa Mayfair restaurant going in at the former News Cafe location.
This one on the end of the street at Mary and Florida is slated to go. They workers are out there proudly marking trees to kill.
And there are quite a few other trees on the kill list. I know it's all in the name of progress and I am supposed to like it. But I don't.
As you know, on September 28, I sent a list of questions to the BID office regarding tree removal, mostly about all the trees on Fuller Street. A reader named Michael Hornyak, also a former employee of the US Department of Agriculture and Director of statewide plant disease program is concerned as are many residents. (Here are the questions).
The BID sent the questions to arborist Lisa Hammer, so far the issue has been ignored, no one has responded with answers to the questions. I am not surprised.
