Sierra Club presents "The Tao of Everest"

Join the Sierra Club, Monday, September 12 for their monthly general meeting with guest speaker Ian Woodall. Ian (shown here) has climbed Mt. Everest twice and has written a book about his triumphs and tragedies. Now using the power of emotional storytelling, Ian brings the triumphs and tragedies of climbing Mount Everest directly to his audience, showing how the insights gained on the mountain can reinforce his principles of personal inspiration and practical leadership.

During his first ascent from the South, Ian and the members of his team were trapped at 8,000 metres in the worst storm in Everest history. It claimed the lives of five fellow climbers. After the trauma and tragedy of the storm Ian and his team nevertheless chose to try again, finally reaching the summit as the only ones left on the mountain. Two years later while attempting the North side of Everest, Ian stopped only a few hundred metres below the summit to try and help a dying American climber.

Ultimately, Ian had to leave her to secure the safety of his own team. Nine years later, he returned to Everest to bury the woman climber and pay his respects.

The event, at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club (2990 S. Bayshore Drive) starts at 7:00 pm with a Sierra Club Miami "hot topics" open discussion. Arrive a little early to find out what the Miami chapter is working on and hear about any hot issues going on in the community.

The social hour is at 7:30 and then the speaker beings at 8:00 pm. There is free parking on site.
