It's Pan Am party season in Coconut Grove
The Pan Am Launch Party is tonight at the Peacock Garden Cafe. This is to celebrate the new TV show which starts on ABC tonight. All 150 tickets have been sold, but I am told that they may let more people in and you can pay at the door ($25.00).
Info on the party here.
Speaking of Pan Am, you may see a lot of former Pan Am employees around the Grove next month. On October 20 to 23, Pan Am is having a "World Wide Family Reunion." It's been 20 years since Pan Am went out of the business, but the former employees are like family and they celebrate Pan Am whenever they can. Above is what is now Miami City Hall, an original Pan Am terminal. The planes would take off and land in the water.
Coconut Grove being such an integral part of Pan Am's history, only makes it the logical place to hold the reunion. There are supposed to be 500 to 800 guests coming. They will stay at the Courtyard Marriott and the Mutiny. This is also the Centennial of aviation, which started in 1911, so there are lots of things planned. A tour of City Hall, the former Pan Am Terminal is high on the agenda also a guided tour of aviation pioneer Glen Curtiss's newly restored Miami Springs Mansion with a stop at the Pan Am Flight Academy.
The Hangar Party is the largest event, being held at the historic Coast Guard Hangar at Shake-A-Leg. After the official reunion there is a choice of two cruises departing the Port Of Miami.
These Pan Am people sure know how to party.
