It's Ice and Rice at the Great Grove Bed Race

cristy-ice
As you know, Rapper and tv star Vanilla Ice, is this year's Grand Marshal of the Great Grove Bed Race (story and pics here). Another celeb who will be judging the beds will be one of Miami's Real Housewives, Cristy Rice, ex-wife of NBA All-Star Glen Rice, who may just pop up on race day with Christy, we are told.

Porsche Latin America, the car company, is a major sponsor this year for the Bed Race. There will be a Porsche Pit Row, with a bunch of their brand new cars on display and a Porsche will be the Pace Car and the Victory Lap Car. The cars are electric and silent, yup, a plug-in hybrid! According to Wired magazine, "Porsche made extensive use of magnesium and aluminum to keep things as light as possible."

The Porsche Latin America team will also be racing a bed, so everyone is anxious to see what type of bed Porsche builds!

Two of the local banks in the race, Coconut Grove Bank and Wells Fargo promise to have incredible beds and everyone is wondering if the Grove-50 police bed can pull it off again this year. After all that boasting on the Channel 6 commercial this past year, let's see if they can do it again.

And the UM track team, they have moved from bar to bar, who will they race for this year? Are they staying with The Grove Spot or crawling back to Sandbar Grill?

Come out Sunday and see. It's all free, there is plenty of parking around the center Grove in tons of parking lots and garages with almost 5000 parking spaces. Here is a parking map. Thanks, Marshall, from Miami Maps.

We'll post the full schedule tomorrow.
