Update on the mangrove trimming at Grove parks
DERM will be issuing permits pending a check for about $21,000 as a bond for the mitigation. A site on Virginia Key was approved for the mitigation. We feel that the mitigation trees should stay in Coconut Grove and not be brought to another area of the city, unless the mitigation must be the same sort of view-blocking mangroves, then Virginia Key could have them.
A topographical survey of the mitigation site needs to be completed before the mitigation work can proceed. The cost is estimated to be about $7000. All the work for the mangrove trimming and mitigation will be performed by the City Parks Dept. Upon completion of the mitigation work, the bond funds will be returned. The funding will come from the Burn Notice master plan account, since views to the water at both parks are part of the master plan.
