Joseph C. Grant's art presented at one man show
For one night only, Thursday, July 7, Grove artist Joseph C. Grant, Jr. is presenting a collection of artwork at Artway-66 Gallery at the Mayfair Promenade (across from The Improv).
"To witness Joseph’s works in person is to experience something truly unique. The energy of his paintings seem to radiate off the canvas, possessing a life of their own,” says Brooklyn Congressman Ed Towns. Joseph’s artwork embodies nostalgia with a figurative style of elongated human forms and vibrant colors. His renderings depict life through the eyes of a black male in America by way of the Caribbean. Inspirational yet reflective, his paintings have been compared to those of the late Ernie Barnes (the paintings on the tv show Good Times, done by J.J.) with the nostalgic quality of Norman Rockwell.
A native of the Island of Trinidad, Joseph (right) is a respected artist, an accomplished author and an independent filmmaker. Using his adventures as the youngest of 11 children, Joe often incorporates his childhood into his works. Collectors of his works includes comedian Bill Cosby, Miami Dade District 1 school board leader Dr. Wilbert “Tee” Holloway, iconic journalist Gill Nobel and wife of NBA All-Star Isaiah Thomas, Lynn Thomas. When not creating, Joe mentors disadvantaged South Florida youth through his award-winning Arts To Literacy program. For more information on artwork visit: www.JosephCgrantjr.com.
New York-based Jazz quartet “Innovative Soundz” will provide the musical atmosphere for the evening. This vibrant young jazz band has played at the Presidential Inauguration In Washington DC, the Louisiana Jazz Festival and opened for one of Jazz’s finest, Irvine Mayfield all before the age of 25. Each member of the band has been formally trained in jazz with a musical education from The Julliard School (MAP), New York City All Jazz High School, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, and the Brooklyn Music & Arts Program. Their first single “Summertime” made it on the Top 5 Reverbnation Jazz Chart.
The cocktail hour is sponsored in part by TOMA Vodka and features Joseph’s signature drink: The “Chocolate Eyez Martini.”
Event Schedule: 7:30 to 10:30 pm. Cocktail hour and Performance by Jazz Band.
