Coconut Hunt was successful due to generosity
I started putting coconuts out around town at 8:30 am, on July 4th, in order to get them out without too many people seeing. The restaurants and stores hid them until 4 pm, when the hunt started. At the end, after everyone left, we were left with so many coconuts, some people take them but most leave them. As usual, the coconut hunt is a lot of work, but a lot of fun.
Above, Sandy Speier and Steven Licata pile them up to bring them back to storage.
Some of the clever clues written by Victor Magluilo for where the coconuts were hidden included:
"The Pilgrims would love to stay here I bet!" -- Mayfair Hotel
"What Chanel might steam her veggies in." -- Cocowok
"Larry and Curley would definitely eat here." -- Mr. Moe's
"If you're lucky, you'll get a song and a dance with that shake!" -- Johnny Rockets
"What you would get if a New Zealand bird dated a cardinal." -- Red Kiwi
And we had lots of prizes, thanks to the generosity of so many local businesses including Regions Banks, who donated the bicycle, which was first prize. We didn't even have to ask, Sandy the branch manager just offered it up.
Also we would like to thank in no particular order: Ashley Pfenning Matejka for a yoga wellness package, The Burgundy Room, Smoothie King, The Mayfair Hotel and Spa, Spartico, Red Kiwi, The Design Box, Johnny Rockets, Out of Africa, Brenda's Boutique, Barracuda and the Grove BID.
Keep in mind, I asked one time on Facebook for prizes and these businesses came through with their generosity. Keep them in mind when doing business in the Grove. Their generosity made the Coconut Hunt possible.
