Good times at Goombay Festival this weekend
The Goombay Festival is back this weekend. On both Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and 5, the party starts from noon and ends at 8 pm. From Douglas Road down to Elizabeth Street, there is plenty of food and fun. A large stage is set up at Douglas where live music is being performed.
Above are Cathy Clark, Terance Jenkins and Pam Jennings. Shout out to our groupie Kai Jennings, Pam's daughter, who has moved to Chicago, but she still reads the Grapevine daily!
There is plenty for the kids to do, on Douglas Road from one side to the other there are different kinds of basketball games set up.
The usual happy faces are out. There are free samples of food and drinks in some areas.
Of course the best part is the food booths. There is everything from seafood including incredible conch fritters to these chicken kabobs. There is ice cream, Italian ices, rum drinks and beer.
And plenty of goodies to buy -- there's lots of shopping to be had.
Here is another large basketball court set up on Douglas Road. The kids will have a ball, it's a great family event. The junkanoo parade starts soon!
