We are lacking; things we need in Coconut Grove

This week, tourists and locals asked me where they can buy these things in the Grove:

1) pots and pans
2) pillows
3) towels
4) eyeglasses

I had to send them all outside the Grove to get them. I asked friends on Facebook what they felt we needed in the Grove, what was lacking? and this is some of the response:

More then one person asked for an arts and crafts store. Others asked for "a good vegetarian/organic restaurant." We do have The Last Carrot, so maybe they want another. Some asked for a Bed, Bath & Beyond-type store.

A Mac/Apple store was a choice of a few people, that would bring in lots of visitors since it's a destination store.

Brian Breslin, local techie, said, "There is a Bed Bath & Beyond on Coral way & 34th Ave., 5 min from the Grove. The Grove needs: another Chinese/Asian, good cup of Cuban coffee (coffee window even), free parking Sundays, to be open til 5 am [he means the bars], and many other things to bring people back. I second the Apple Store thing though, would draw a lot of people in who trek to Dadeland instead."

Jody Finver said we needed, "A home goods where Borders was. A William Sonoma or Crate and Barrel instead of another empty restaurant. A bakery like the tiny French one on Red Road in South Miami. An Apple Store in place of the empty gallery. A foreign/ independent film house. A community center like Key Biscayne's. And an inexpensive diner like you'd find in New Jersey that has affordable Greek salads and roast beef sandwiches."

Matt Herzberger asked for: " A live music venue, similar to Tobacco Road or Transit. Yes there are places that have it every once in awhile but I mean a dedicated place where can see small local acts."

Many felt that the Kress 5 and 10 had what we needed, but that is long gone (it's Jaguar restaurant now). Of course the Playhouse reopening was on the list and also a Trader Joe's which always comes up. I know that Trader Joe's has considered the area, so maybe one day they will actually make the move.

Debbie Dolson was being nostalgic: "I wish we had the old Pampered Chef and Adam's Apple shops back on Commodore Plaza. I still have the little apples used to wrap gifts from Adam's Apple. Many of my wedding gifts came wrapped this way!"

One person said, "Ya know what we need, an ATM. Seriously. Why isn't there one in Cocowalk?"

I have been told that Chase bank will be adding ATM's to CocoWalk, so the first of this long list will be taken care of shortly. Now we just need to start on the rest.
