Tiki huts being installed on two of the spoil islands
FIND (the Florida Inland Navigation District) is providing a $15,000 grant with $1500 coming from the City of Miami. The committee members representing Ransom Everglades, The Rotary Club and Shake-A-Leg said that they would make up the price difference for the total cost of $19,800.
Two Custom built authentic 15 ft. x 15 ft. double deck tiki huts at $28.00 per square foot ($6,300 each) $12,600 are planned.
There will be observation decks on both double deck tikis, with railings and a handicap accessible ramp ($3,600 each). #1 rated, 25 year warranty pressure treated deck wood will be used and stainless steel screws.
8-10 inch pressure treated poles will be used on the main posts of all huts.The top connecting posts will be 8 inch cypress poles. The remainder of the frame will be constructed with 5-6 inch cypress trusses and 3 inch to 4 inch cypress perlins. Hand selected Florida palm fronds will be individually rolled to create a leak proof thatch roof.
Big Cypress Tiki Huts will transport wood and materials to the dock. It is understood that any fees incurred by transporting wood and materials across to the island (job site) will be additional.
