Update on Waterfront floating dock plans

The Waterfront Implementation Committee met last week and discussed floating docks for Spoil Island E. Various floating docks were presented by Keith Ng the City's Capital Improvements project manager and Timothy Blankenship, Coast Systems International, Inc. Aluminum docks seemed to be favored.

But Ransom Everglades and Shake-A-Leg felt that a versadock type system would work well and be cost effective, based on their success with the system.

The FIND (Florida Inland Navigation District) Commissioner sent an email detailing a small scale spoil island restoration grant program, capped at $7500 per project and $22,500 for the year. This is a 90% match and can be applied for at any time during the year. The $22,500 a year would fund three projects.

A seagrass study is being conducted around Kennedy Park, to see if the floating dock will be allowed there. The shoreline restoration project includes exotic removal, some native plantings, a walkway part of which may be over the bay, and an initial survey to reconnect the tidal flow into the mangrove area.
