Memories . . . from back in the day . . .
These photos and ads came from a Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce publication from 1970. You can see the first Bank of Coconut Grove on Main Highway in the late 1800s, home to H&H Jewels now.
The bank building was many things over the years including Joffrey's coffee shop before H&H moved in.
The structure looks amazingly the same today, but of course H. has added pure elegance to the structure. It just may be the most elegant building in Coconut Grove today.
The Coconut Grove Bank's branch on S. Bayshore Drive was very progressive in 1970, they opened a bike window, where Grovites could drive up and bank, this is way before care drive-thru windows. In 1970 the Old Bank Building was turned into an elegant marketplace; below is an ad promoting the new enterprise. Today on Fuller Street is H&H, Barracuda and the Aveda Salon.
