Sometimes we are our own worst enemy
Last weekend, at a charity event, one hotel's valet parkers, turned every car away after 20 cars were parked, which they said was their limit, so all the people who were to attend the event, left in a huff and the event and the Grove lost business.
Another hotel had an event planner promote their pool party, only to tell them at event time that the pool was for hotel guests only. This made most of the guests turn back at the door and leave. They had planned to be in the pool, not standing and watching hotel guests having all the fun.
Many restaurants in the Grove stop serving from 4 to 6 pm daily. Dozens of people, are turned away at those hours, taking business elsewhere. Many want a late late lunch or early dinner. These places are losing that business.
The Fresh Market needs to take a cue from Whole Foods when it comes to the loose food bins. I witnessed a family go from bin to bin the other day, sticking their hands in every candy and nut bin, sampling the items and then just walking away. They did the same thing at the olive bar with the olives and peppers. Is it any wonder many of us don't buy those items in The Fresh Market anymore? Loss of sales for them. Dr. Oz did a show the other day on this, showing with a red light, all the germs and sicknesses that are left on these bins by the rude candy thieves.
What Whole Foods does is have a funnel-type system where the food cannot be reached into. If people want a sample, they have to get it the way the candy and nuts come out of the bins, through the bottom funnel part, where no one's hands touch the items.
Kennedy Park is packed on Sundays, there are cars all over, and so are the cops, giving tickets. One officer blocked traffic on one lane of S. Bayshore to give tickets to cars that were not blocking anyone. The cars on the grass beside the park would be legally parked if the "no parking" signs were removed. Why leave people with a bad taste in their mouths when they visit the Grove? Many who come spend money here, they leave the park and head to Monty's or Scotty's or other closeby restaurants. But once they have a ticket, they leave in disgust and don't come back.
True, there is parking in the lot next door, but most people don't know there is a lot next door. No one tells them. Perhaps a sign next to the "no parking" signs would help.
