Mangroves issue drags on thanks to DERM

The issue of cutting windows in the mangroves in Peacock and Myers Parks is still in limbo. DERM, the Department of Environment and Resource Management, is requesting more information before granting the permits.

Harry Horgan, of Shake-A-Leg, offered to step in and help out with the issue. Once the permits are obtained, the trimming is grandfathered in, eliminating a further permit process.

The mangroves were placed there sometime in the 1980s as mitigation from overzealous developers who broke the law when building their project. The problem is that the mitigation should not have included mangroves at the water's edge. So therein lies the problem and it appears that DERM does not want to budge on this.
