Grizzly ghouls from every tomb thrilled the Grove
Michael Jackson's famous Thriller dance sequence was recreated at CocoWalk on Saturday night. It was sort of a flash mob, but it has been set up for weeks and people were alerted ahead of time, unlike a real flash mob.
At about 7 pm, the dancers hit the floor, then rose to dance the famous video routine.
Hundreds of people hung from the balconies watching the mesmerizing performance.
The event is called Thrill the World and it's a world-wide thing. At the same time, people all over are doing the Thriller routine. The event raised money for the St. Jude Children's Hospital. The dancers went around collecting before and after the performance.
They did a fantastic job, they had been practicing secretly at the Museum of Science over the past few weeks and had a final meeting at Shaq 24 Hour Fitness just before Saturday's performance. They will peform at other venues this week, they don't know where yet, in fact, they only found out that they would be at CocoWalk a few hours before.
So the the funk of 40,000 years and the grizzly ghouls from every tomb thrilled hundreds in the Grove for six minutes. It was really a special thing and it raised a lot of money for charity.
We suggested they do it next at the Coconut Grove Cemetery, the rumored location of the actual Thriller video shoot back in the 1980s on Charles Avenue.
The cast of Kristina Aston, Bob and Eileen Brennan, Claudia Osorio and Miami club promoter Queen of the Scene, along with all the rest of the ghouls and gobblins did themselves proud this Halloween week.
We hope they come back for Halloween night and maybe even the Friday block party on Fuller Street.
Eileen and Bob Brennan really got into character and did an impressive job. Hard to believe this is also Santa!
