Gallery Soup
Yesterday's Coconut Grove Gallery Walk started early with the arrival of Marcie Ziv and her famous Rolls Royce. She parked it in front of the Windisch-Hunt Gallery, where the theme of the night was "Car Culture."
We watched as Marcie parallel parked the exotic auto on a dime, in a very tight space. Then we all proceeded to take photos around the car and that was the case all afternoon and night with everyone who walked by.
The lineup: Michael Gardner, Jacob Gardner, Lisa Braverman, AnnaMaria Windisch-Hunt and Marcie Ziv. The car continually stopped traffic, they didn't really need the gallery banner to attract art lovers.
Over at the GroveHouse Artists gallery at the Mayfair Promenade, they had their Only Reds and Greens Show. This was the first prize winner, the mosaic mask by Jackie Gran. Someone asked me earlier in the day yesterday, at a flea market, if I collected anything. I do, African Masks is one of the things I collect. I may go back and buy this today, hopefully it's still available. I left a message on Facebook for the GroveHouse to hold it for me.
My friend Terry Mulrooney won second place with the mangos painting.
And Marilyn Valente won third place with this floral image.
The GroveHouse always draws a large crowd to their events. It's fun, they always have such good food and drink (delicious Sangria last night) and lots of affordable art by locals. The Only Reds and Greens show will be on display until the end of the month.
Out of Africa, right across from the GroveHouse also has many African Masks. They draw a lively crowd every Gallery Walk night, too.
The band Different Faces performed all night. Julian, the lead singer has an amazing voice, he can mock any famous rock singer, it seems. When he performed a few Bryan Adams hits, you could swear it was the real Bryan singing. Long after the galleries closed, the band continued playing for the long line of patrons waiting to get into The Improv, they all enjoyed the performance. As I walked to my car late at night, way down the block, I could hear one of my favorites, "Sweet Home Alabama," and you could swear it was Lynyrd Skynyrd performing. It was a nice way to end the night.
Even The Three Stogies cigar shop opened up and out into the Promenade with dominoes games played right next to the Art Stroll band. There's really something for everyone on Gallery Walk night. We never made it past Mayfair, we missed the cool galleries at Commodore Plaza and CocoWalk, but will check them out during the month, since the art is on display until then. We did make it to two pool events, the Triad Trust charity event at the Mutiny and Nat Mir Events' girls night out party at the Mayfair pool. We'll have those stories later this week. We also have a piece of the Miami Conservatory of Music, who had a little ensemble playing by the Mayfair fountain well into the night and the Artway66 gallery opening party.
