Urban Paradise Guild partners with Vizcaya
In July, UPG formalized a partnership with Vizcaya although their relationship goes back to 2008. UPG maintains the Vizcaya Nursery in exchange for shared space and they are allowed to gather seeds and work with the Old Growth Hammock and Mangroves on the property. Vizcaya is a genetic repository, perfect for the cultivation of plants.
Joining the Vizcaya Chapter of UPG requires an interview with Carrie Cleland, the UPG Nursery Manager with Vizcaya. Committed volunteers are needed, but this is a commitment, not a one-time deal. They also have Plant Safaris, where they dig plants to put into the nursery for future projects.
To get a feel for the group, you can attend their birthday party on September 11 at Oleta River State Park where there will be a tree planting, a BBQ, music, kayaking and lots more. Info is here.
