The excitement is building
I was walking down the street and up comes a truck with Jack King and Steven Rehage; they tell me to hop in, which I do, and then I look in the back and there is the bed for the Rehage Jewelry store. It's part of this Sunday's Great Grove Bed Race, only they are not racing, it will be painted and decorated and sit in the store window, where people can stop by, sit relax, have a drink and enjoy the long Labor Day weekend.
All over the Grove the buzz is happening, the buzz of saws, drills and other tools -- all being used by bed builders to create the beds for this Sunday's Race. Jason Portnoy and John El Masry from Mr. Moe's tried their bed out on Commodore Plaza. The literally ran the bed up and down the street to try out the wheels. It was being built earlier in the day inside Mr. Moe's.
The police are pleased with their bed. They actually raced it around the atrium at Mayfair today. Officer Izzy had to hang on for dear life as the guys pushed her around on the slippery tile.
It's really getting exciting. The Bed Race is on everyone's minds.
Does Monty Trainer think he can beat the police with his bike? It is a special edition Panama Jack bike, but still . . .
Late in the afternoon, into early evening, Bevin Bru and Mark Terra completed the paint job on the Grove 5-0 bed, that's the police department's bed. The big yellow circle will be the City of Miami police emblem.
