Beautifying South Bayshore Drive
South Bayshore Drive is being beautified this week. Colorful flowers and foliage are being installed. The job should take from Monday to Friday and by week's end, the Grove will have a new pretty entryway as you come up S. Bayshore.
Now if only we could open up some of the water views. The Sailing Club is one of the worst culprits. Their ugly chain link fence and even uglier shrubs surrounding the fence ruin what could be an incredible view. As you look out from the Mutiny Hotel, shown here, all you see are beat up shrubs. That view should be opened up.
Another idea being discussed behind closed doors is a land swap, which would allow the village to take over the horseshoe area at the end of McFarlane Road and make that part of Peacock Park, if the mangroves can be opened up there, which is hopefully the case, in the form of "windows," that whole area could be one beautiful view.
In Arva Moore Parks' new book, on the Grove, there is a photo of a stone monument at the water's edge at that very spot. It must have been something to actually see the water as you drove down McFarlane Road. It was probably like that when I was a kid, I vaguely remember that. I do remember that at the water's edge inside the park there were tables with shelters and the water view was wide open.
