Another rainy, but successful Gallery Walk

For the fourth month in a row, it rained on the Coconut Grove Gallery Walk, but the art lovers still showed up. This Saturday's Gallery Walk was one of the best.


All the galleries drew a large crowd from Mayfair to Commodore Plaza. We had a very special night, we spent a lot of it with Monty Trainer at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival Gallery, where we went through old photos, letters, newspaper clippings and magazines all about Coconut Grove. We'll share a lot of these here in the Grapevine in the coming weeks -- there was so much history. We love the old advertisements the best. We also enjoyed seeing original letters by Grove pioneers like the Munroes and Peacocks and lots of old Chamber of Commerce papers, with so many long gone businesses (and people) listed.


The Gallery Walks are quite interesting too in the fact that we have seen work by the same artists in more than one gallery, but at very different price points.


One artist had a piece for $250 in one gallery and $7500 in another. He claimed that the size was the reason -- the more expensive one was larger, but to be honest, it was about double the size, and yet it was much more than double the price. Pays to shop around.


It's really nice how the galleries change out the art and have something special each month. There is food and wine at each location and most have live music, too.


All the work is on display through the month at most of the galleries, so if you missed it this weekend, it's still there for your viewing (and buying) pleasure.
