Updates on up and coming events
The Grove Merchants Group along with the BID is working on an event to bring in white partiers to the Center Grove for one of the days or more with a shopping day or possibly a fashion show or bathing suit show and the hotels may reach out to get a lot of the visitors to stay in the Grove for that week.
Also in the works, probably for Spring, is the Orchid Show, which may take over part of Grand Avenue, as the Mad Hatter does in November.
Two events pertaining to the Great Grove Bed Race are coming up. On August 19 is the last of the Get Rolling Gatherings, location to be determined. This is a Happy Hour/Pep Rally all centered around the Bed Race, where people can get tips on bed building and also sign up on the spot for a bed in the race.
On August 27, the Test and Tune Road Rally takes place at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, where actual beds that will be in the race can race around the 1/8" mile track in Homestead. It's a great way to try your bed out on wheels and debut it to the public on a real track. The actual Great Grove Bed Race is September 5, part of Labor Day weekend.
Snow Days will be back again in December for three weekends. And there is talk of moving The Great Taste of the Grove to April from January, hope they don't we think January is perfect for this event despite our freezing and wet weather last time. The Chamber of Commerce made some major changes over the weekend regarding The Great Taste, rather than one or two people running the event, the whole Chamber board will be responsible as one large committee. So we expect some changes for the next event.
Something in the works that might come through the Grove is an Iron Man Triathlon on October 30. It begins in downtown Miami and passes through the Grove and goes all the way down to Cutler Bay and then back again. It consists of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run. The Grove would be the bike ride part, it would come down S. Bayshore Drive, go up McFarlane Road, down Main Highway south. It's still not 100% but there is a website dedicated to it already and the Iron Man site is already pushing it. This would be a fun "Tour de France" type thing were people could cheer the riders on along the route from restaurants and other venues.
In October, November and December, the Artists and Crafters Association will be presenting invitational shows for their members to take place at the Mayfair Promenade. Each month there will be one show for the weekend from Friday through Sunday (three days). For information on getting involved if you are an artsit or crafter, please call Don Epstein at 954-340-8562.
