The Coconut Grove Gallery Walk art vibe is back

art5
The rain threatened for the third month in a row, but it managed to hold off, with just a little drizzle, as the First Saturday Gallery Walk took place last night. The new banners purchased by the BID stood outside each gallery, making it quite easy to spot, which turned out to be much nicer than the chalk footprints used in the past. Despite the threat of rain, the Grove was buzzing from one end to the other.

This copper statue of Charlie Chaplin premiered in the Windisch-Hunt Gallery, the artist is Juan Ramon Porras. We hit every gallery in town, and then some. We'll report on many of the openings during the week. So please come back for that.

We ran into her at the end of the night, doing what every good shopaholic does -- shop! Here she is at the Mayfair Antique Market buying this vintage hat. She promised to wear it at this week's Mad Men Monday Happy Hour. It's from decades before the 1960s, but it will do.

Over at Florentine Plaza, the drum circle took place where Karen Deilke (left) and Liz Gibson, led the group. Upstairs at the top of the Plaza, Blu Moon had a full house for their Mandala exhibit (more this week).

All over the Grove, people were gallery hopping and enjoying the vibe. There was plenty of wine and food at each location and lots of new art. And all throughout the Grove there was music. A cover band played incredible classic rock at the Art Stroll at the Mayfair Promenade and there was live music at most of the galleries inside and out. The Bookstore and CocoWalk also had live performers. And of course the drum circle invited all passersby to sit in and play.

A lot of new faces were seen around town and more and more the Coconut Grove Gallery Walk is being put on the map as a must-do each month. The galleries on Commodore Plaza -- Nomade, Chacon and Dharma always seem to have an international-type vibe going, while most of the other galleries have a more local feel.

Tomas bought this scooter at the Max Gallery, he says that he'll use it for deliveries for his New York Pizza place on McFarlane Road. The Max Gallery sold a Britto and a Peter Max last night, along with the scooter. It was a good night for most of the galleries, they said they had very good sales.
