Half a block is better than no block

blockparty
There is talk about bringing the Commodore Plaza Block Party back, mostly by the restaurant owners on Commodore Plaza. But while the west end of Commodore is sort of dead at the moment, the east end is full of life. With the new Lulu restaurant open and the crowds at Greenstreets, it could work. This week last year, is when the first block party started -- it was right after the fireworks on July 4th.

But putting the show on is a lot of work. It was a chore booking bands each week and closing the streets cost a lot in fees, maintenance and security. The BID ran the party and it took them days out of each week to run it. Perhaps if the restaurants take over and do it on their own, it could happen. Tables in the streets would work and perhaps music at each restaurant rather than one large band would make it easier. There are lots of street musicians who would work for less than a major band with their own equipment, and no stage is needed.

Maybe the half block could work from George's down to Greenstreet and Lulu. From what we hear, the restaurants are willing to chip in and start the parties up again. It would be the Half a Block Party.
