You know the Grove is back when . . .
Our buds at SoFlo Skate and Bike Shop (3301-D Grand Avenue) won Best Skate Shop.
This little unassuming shop in the former Basil restaurant location at Grand and Margaret has it going on. Like the New Times says, it's a skate shop, bike repair place and community clubhouse. Check them out today if you go to the Farmer's Market, they are right across the street and there is always something happening there.
The New Times says, "The swank for sale is plentiful. You got $25 organic cotton and hemp long sleeves from Elwood and others. You got rad kicks — Etnies, Vans, Vox, etc. — for $30 to $65. And you got street decks from most major companies as well as SoFlo's own custom line of $35 Jr5-designed boards. You got wheels and bearings and more. So show up, shop, and say 'Hey!' to SoFlo mascot Cognac. He's a brindle bull terrier, and he can usually be found chilling on a bar chair in the corner."
The Best Mile in Miami was given to the Grove's own Main Highway to Douglas Road via Ingraham Highway. The Best Frozen Yogurt was Red Kiwi on Commodore Plaza. And our friends at Dharma Studio, also on Commodore Plaza snagged the award for Best Place to Meet Single Women. We proved that here, and they are quite limber, too.
The Best Public Works Project is the outdoor gym at Kennedy Park. The Best Gourmet Market is Gardner's (they should win most overpriced, too). The Kampong was voted Best Place to Spend Midweek, Gibraltar, the new restaurant at Grove Isle won Best Restaurant in the Grove. The Best Powerboat Rental went to American Watersports. And we won a little something, too.
