Village Council supports affordable housing project
The Village Council voted unanimously last week to formally support the affordable housing project in Village West. Jihad Rashid, president of the Coconut Grove Collaborative, who are behind the project, presented his plans for a second time to the Council.
The Council asks that District County Commissioner Carlos Gimenez, who is in control of Government Obligation Bonds which would go to projects such as this, release $5 million to the project.
Village Council members present, who voted for the resolution were from left: Felice Dubin, David Collins, Michelle Niemeyer, David Wells, Chairman Patrick Sessions, Heather Bettner and Kate Callahan.
The Council was also in favor of the Bahamian-style kiosks also in the works by Rashid and his group.
