The summer sky is ablaze with red
The Royal Poincianas are redder than ever this year so the 73rd annual Royal Poinciana Festival will be extra special. The festival is Sunday, June 13 at The Kampong. The gates will open at 11:30 am, admission to The Kampong (4013 S. Douglas Road) will be free that day.
Our cold winter stressed the trees, which made them bloom extra bright and with more blooms this year.
As you drive all around the village, especially on South Bayshore Drive and on Main and Ingrahm Highways, the trees are really aflame.
The Kampong's narrated trolly tour of the area starts at 2 pm on June 13. The tour goes through Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and South Miami, revealing the bright red trees.
The traditional Poinciana punch and cake will be served following the 2-hour tour. Please call TFTS representative Carol Vannoorbeeck at 305.258.1086 to ask about the tour, we are told they ae sold out at this point and only the Kampong grounds are availble to be enjoyed.
For more information about The Kampong in general, please call 305.442.7169 or email: kampong@ntbg.org.
The Royal Poinciana Fiesta runs from June 12 to 14 with activities scheduled at several locations throughout the city. The Tropical Flowering Tree Society website has more information here: http://www.tfts.org/.
