Peacocks are finally hitting the streets
The peacocks from the Coconut Grove Peacock Tour are starting to hit the streets. The first two were placed out yesterday. One is at The Fresh Market, that's store manager Ovidio Cuervo and Jose Pena with the bird painted by Nancy Martini and below is the peacock painted by Dan Bondroff, at Shell Lumber.
One problem I see is that so much work went into the back of the birds and you cannot see them because of their placement. Shell Lumber was afraid of vandals, so they placed the bird up high, over the front entrance. Hope it holds. Did you see that news story today about the guy who got trapped in his own easy chair under a fallen stuffed water buffalo head?
The peacocks have been coated with an anti-graffiti material, so hopefully vandals will not be able to harm the artwork. In cities all over the country, art in public places has to deal with vandals. It should not affect the placement of the art, which could hide some of the artwork.
