Marking the art
The Coconut Grove Gallery Walk used yellow chalk sprayed footprints, sprayed all over the sidewalks, which lead to the galleries. They didn't do it last month, but the month before the footprints were all over the place, and we suggested perhaps it would be best to have them only in front of the galleries, so as people are strolling by, they would see the footprints and know that a participating gallery is there. Green lanterns that hang in front of each gallery, also alert people.
In Punta Gorda, Florida, we saw these painted sandals on the sidewalks in front of participating "galleries" for their monthly Gallery Walk. The art is not actually in galleries but in various businesses around their walking district. The sandals are in front of a realty office, a chocolate shop, a flower shop and every place that participates on Gallery Night.
The sandals are permanent, so I'm not sure how that works when a participating business closes or decides not to participate. But the concept of having the sandals only in front of the participating venues is a great idea, rather than have them scattered all over every sidewalk, which gets confusing.
Our yellow sprayed footprints were not used last time because the chalk did not easily wash off the previous time, so a different type chalk is being sought out. But the last Gallery Walk was rained on quite heavily, so it would have been a good night to test the new not-so-sticky chalk.
