Big night planned for Gallery Walk this Saturday

art
Coconut Grove's First Saturday Gallery Walk is back on June 5.

The Art Stroll at the Mayfair Promenade is home base with music, food, drinks and dancing and of course, lots of art, which lines the Promenade on either side. The Mayfair Antiques Market is part of the festivities at the Promenade, new there this month are the paintings, metal sculptures and lucite art lamps of Cleo Renaut. Next door is the GroveHouse Artists Gallery, which this month is featuring "Hot Tropics." Featured artist this month is Wendy Wood.

Across from the GroveHouse is Out of Africa, with authentic African art, clothing, masks and jewelry.

Earlier in the Day, is Grove Day, where a Bahamian Straw Market will be set up right on Grand Avenue in front of the Windisch-Hunt Gallery and if you pop into the Gallery (during the day or at night during Gallery Walk, where there are refreshments and reception), you'll see an exhibition of works by Bahamian artists, called "Bahamian Artists," not only paintings fill the gallery, but junkanoo masks and costumes make it a very colorful and interesting display. Master Artists Antonius Roberts is featured. Alex Altidor above is shown signing one of his Haitian pieces, which also is part of the exhibit.

The Bahamian section of the exhibit was exclusively produced by the Consul General of the Bahamas, visual arts and history will combine with a presentation of Bahamian History by Kinad, Inc.

Windisch-Hunt will also be showcasing works from its “Your Branches Speak to me of Love” series, featuring large still life paintings of Poinciana flowers, where size restriction doesn’t apply. The exhibit is part of an open call for artists.

In the same Caribbean spirit, RODEZart.com, at CocoWalk (second floor), unveils its juiciest addition – the mouth-watering fruit sculptures of Mari Sánchez, perfectly placed among the landscape of George Rodez’s acclaimed Caribe exhibition.

Cristina Chacon's Gallery on Commodore Plaza is continuing last month's“Iluminata” series, with painter and sculptor Araujo Santoyo. Also on Commodore Plaza, Ingrid Eliasson and Jennifer Basile will be featured at the Dharma Studio, with their mixed media drawings and at the Nomade Gallery, "Dirty Laundry" is being aired, which documents a lucid dream adventure in a 24-hour laundromat created by critically acclaimed Miami photographer Charis Kirchheimer.

Back across town, at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival Gallery, the "New Waves" collection adds a couple more students to the student art being presented, all created by high schoolers. The latest art is from our very own Academy of Arts and Minds students.

Blu Moon is also proud to feature the work of owner/instructor Sheri Friedman's pupils who participate in her on-going art classes, workshops and portfolio prep classes.

From 5 to 11 pm, the streets will be full of people and art. New art is premiered at the galleries each first Saturday, where art lovers enjoy refreshments while strolling around the village perusing the art.
