Grove in spotlight again, looking foolish
The Herald even features it above our stories, where we try to place upbeat stories on their site. They had a big head shot with it but at least they moved that inside now. (If you didn't hear the story, you can read it at that link).
I did receive the story from an anonymous tipster who sent it to all the media last week. A person who didn't have the balls to sign their own name and used an anonymous email address to send the media the story. There we go with "Anonymous" again, it's always anonymous that causes the problems.
The principal made a mistake and now is being torn apart. True, she should not have used that language, but in this day and age when teachers are having sex with students and students are killing or almost killing each other on school grounds, this seems sort of trivial. The parent who received the email should have brought up the subject to the principal privately, not spread it like wildfire. That makes that person worse than the principal in our humble opinion.
The principal is human, like hopefully the rest of the parents are. The school or even the Grove now is known as the town with the "Eat sh-- and die school." We can add this to our Grapevine tours that we sometimes mull about -- of infamous people and sites in the Grove. "There's the spot where Michael Jackson may or may not have filmed Thriller, there's the spot Burn Notice is filmed, there is Ellen, our town psychic walking down the street, there are the famous painted peacocks, there's Monty Trainer! And here's the grave site of Grove pioneer Eva Munroe and there is the 'Eat sh-- and die' school!"
The person who spread this story was malicious in deliberately making it go viral (it's probably all over the country now, the principal is probably ready for the Today Show and Oprah circuit and probably up for her own reality show). The PTA looks foolish and controlling now and Coconut Grove looks foolish too. "There's that stupid little funky hippy village at it again . . . their schools are just as bohemian as the people."
Maybe that can be the new Grove tag line that the BID is always looking for.
